Do you know there are foods that can help fight depression and anxiety?

Foods that can help fight depression and anxiety, which can be sometimes be heightened during the holiday season. Research shows that foods that are high in nutrients like vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, proteins, and fatty acids are known to help.  

Leafy Green Vegetables, rich in folate, vitamin B and magnesium

Berries- full of antioxidants which help protect from cell damage

Turkey- contains tryptophan, an amino acid your body uses to make the mood regulating serotonin

Carrots- contain a unique antioxidant called carotenoids, known to have anti-inflammatory effects on the body. In some studies, consuming more carotenoids has been shown to lower symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Avocado- rich in folate, potassium, tryptophan, and vitamin K, which may help ease symptoms of depression.

Mushrooms - rich in B vitamin and selenium

Tomatoes- they are packed with antioxidants, iron, vitamin B, tryptophan, all which are mood regulating nutrients

Brazil nuts- Contain many nutrients, including selenium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, calcium, and iron.

Walnuts- provide several mood-elevating nutrients, including omega-3 fatty acids, copper, iron, antioxidants, and magnesium

Milk - good source of vitamin D, which may ward off symptoms of depression.

Coffee- can give you a quick mood lifting feeling

Salmon- rich in vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids, which may help relieve symptoms of depression.

Clams & Mussels- Good sources of B12.  Clams are high in tryptophan, mussels are high in omega 3 fatty acids which can decrease inflammation and promote brain health.
